Arlan L Rosenbloom MD

Arlan L. Rosenbloom is Adjunct Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics at the University of Florida College of Medicine. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine in 1958, completed a rotating internship at Los Angeles County General Hospital and a general practice residency at Ventura County Hospital in Ventura California, and then spent two years in Southeast Asia (Cambodia and Malaysia) as a physician and surgeon with CARE-MEDICO. He returned to the US for pediatric residency and pediatric endocrine fellowship at the University of Wisconsin from 1962 to 1966, when he was drafted during the Vietnam War and served in the US Public Health Service with the Centers for Disease Control /WHO smallpox eradication program as epidemiologist consultant for the French Equatorial African countries, based in Yaoundé Cameroon, from 1966 to 1968. At the University of Florida College of Medicine (UFCOM) since 1968, he founded the Pediatric Endocrinology Division, Florida's Diabetes Camps, the UF Diabetes Research Education & Treatment Center, and the Regional Diabetes & Endocrine Program for Children, and directed the General Clinical Research Center. He has served on numerous editorial boards, and on review committees for FDA, NIH, and other US and international grant agencies. He chaired the National Diabetes Commission task force that created the National Diabetes Data Group, and the landmark ADA Consensus conference on T2DM in children, and has authored or contributed to numerous other consensus statements or guidelines. He has authored/co-authored 340 articles and 75 chapters or books, primarily on diabetes and growth. He has mentored ~30 fellows, most of whom have pursued academic careers. He has lectured extensively throughout the US and internationally. His awards include the Faculty Research Prize of the University of Florida College of Medicine in 1994, the Distinguished Medical Alumnus Citation of the University of Wisconsin in 1995, the Florida Blue Key Distinguished Faculty Award in 1995, the Distinguished Physician Award of The Endocrine Society for 2003, the ISPAD (International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes) Prize for Achievement in Science, Education, & Advocacy on Behalf of Young People with Diabetes for 2004, and the Eli Lilly Achievement Award for diabetes health professionals for 2006.
